On Monday, during our Produce Mobile, we were able to serve over 150 families. Our volunteers noticed that there were many new faces in the patrons. They were encouraged to practice social distancing to best protect our patrons and volunteers. Our volunteers were there from 8:00 am to 11:00 am to avoid gathering large crowds. Today our volunteers served over 70 people during our community meal. The patrons also received assistance in completing their census in order to #becounted. Additionally, masks were given out to help reduce risks to COVID-19.

The Chicago Tribune published a front-page article attacking Chicago Community Bond Fund for paying bond for people who cannot afford it themselves. As much as this is an attack on pretrial freedom, it is also a defense of a two-tiered justice system: one that grants advantages to the wealthy while punishing other people for their poverty. This article reinforces racist fear-mongering about people accused of crimes and is riddled with factual errors about the impact of CCBF’s work.
